yes synthetics are available and are recommended.

when i changed mine after some research i put in 3.2quarts (3L) of mobil 1 synthetic ATF. there is a big debate on what and how much to put in, whats recommended in the manual is not the correct they later found out.

3.17 quarts (3.0 liters) of Dexron III/Mercon is specified by Tremec for the TR3650. Synthetics are bad for these trannies, some addatives in a synthetic will eat away atcertain internal parts.

there are no additives in synthetics that will eat anything inside the transmission. Synthetics are one of the best things you can do for your transmission, not to mention the rest of your car.

Syn ftw!

Right out of the TR3650 service manual:

"TREMEC engineers have recommended Texaco-Havoline Dexron III/Mercon Non-Synthetic ATF. The most recent Ford owner's manuals specify 3.17 quarts of a non-synthetic Mercon ATF. Synthetic fluids willcause prematurewear of the synchronizer materials."

I e-mailed the guys at TREMAC and they responded within a day. OzzDOA's post mirrors what the tech at TREMEC told me inhis response. I have a T45 and the Dextron III/ Mercon is good for it also.

That Mobil 1 stuff is thefluid that Ford put in from the factory that contributed to all the shifting problems that people were/are having with the 3650. I put Valvoline Dexron III/Mercon in my trans and the differance was considerable. The trans shifted much smoother and cold weather shifting was 1000% better.
