Funny how places charge you so much for the install when they know they can simply pull the valve covers off and use a timing chain holder to swap the cams out. Honestly, if you know what you are doing an ahve done them before a cam swap should take about 3 hours from start to finish. If you've never done it before...all night...lol It's super easy and like I said all you need to do is take your valve covers off. Thant's it! I think Comp Cams sells a timing chain cheater tool to make life a little easier. I use an extra hand and a screw driver.
Stage 2 btw just make sure of the specs on the duration and lift before you crank your car over, as you may need to retard the timing a few degrees. Comp Cams come in as 4 degrees advance automatically and could give PTV clearance issues if you already have your Custom tune as advanced! Just back it off to -2degrees(which is actually +2)and you'll be good to go! Most tuners advance timing to squeeze hp. You could install timing adjuster gears at the time of the gears so there are no confusions the next time or for that matter everytime you have it tuned!!! i suggest this. Otherwise someone may think your car is at 0 degrees when it's at +4 already and cause failures but this is the cheap way out of installing cams! Otherwise you must pul the front accesories and cover off. Therefore $1400 unwisely spent $$$$$

I also watched that show, the cam swap on the 02 gt, they had 229 baseline on the dyno, and after the cam swap, they said it only had 240!! it seems that maybe they left out the parts where they had to adjust timing and such, that would have been good for a few more hp. Its really disgusting to see that the cams only netted that much, im in the middle of rebuilding my 98gt, so now im not sure if the cam upgrade along with the pi heads im using is worth it? Sorry guybut i dont think in your case u should get the cams unless you gonna do it your self.

I wouldn't suggest just removing the valve covers to swap cams. One slip that you dont know about and you will either have to take the front apart anyway (if you catch it) or you will destroy your engine if you dont catch it. All of those cheater tools are crap and not a sure thing. Thats why if you have cams installed by a pro you have to pay big because they are smart enough to do it right.

+1... it's not that hard to put cams in. I've done it but it was with my stock cams. My two buddies put a cam in an '02 by just removing the valve covers and using zip ties on the cam gears. They got lucky. I wouldn't attempt it. It is a PTA to take off the timing cover as you will have to remove the accessories but it is do-able.
