a trans-go shift kit is the way to go. as far as the shifter itself, a B&M ripper shifter would probably make you happy, but i've never done an install with one.

The shift kit alone is easy to install. Since I got a torque converter I paid 500 for installation( converter and shift kit ) It is a hell of a difference. My buddy in his 5 speed can't keep up with me.
