Sparkplug removal - fuel rails?
#22
I applaud your use of the Search function--however the last message in this thread is over 3 years old. You should have started a new one.
To answer your questions; your have a SOHC engine most often referred to as the 4.6L 2V (2 valves per cylinder). It has a COP (Coil-On-Plug, one coil for each spark plug) DIS (Distributorless Ignition System)--this is why you do not see any distributor or plug wires--it has none.
Looking at the photo of the filthy engine, from the first post in this thread, the COP is the black thingy just left of center, between the fuel injectors (pink on the OP's 2004, they will be orange on your 2000):
As has been stated several times in this thread, it is not necessary to remove the fuel rails to change the plugs.

Yeah no fuel rail removal neccesary i shared the same concern. And yeah tourque wrench is a great idea but honestly anti seize is your friend and if youve done a number of plugs before i honestly eye ball the tourque and roll saves a bit of hassle and time and im certainly not sweating it. Also im not keeping my plugs for 90k miles especially after seeing what they looked like at 60k miles. And motorcraft is what im using based on a decent amount of research here and elsewhere until i go FI anyway.

1998 GT i'm guessing i need a swivel to remove the 2nd plug from the back on the passenger side? i tried using a 3 inch ext. but it wouldn't go straight down because of the fuel rail. I was afraid of putting the socket down there then the ext. thought maybe i might loose my socket when it comes to removal
Thanks
Thanks
