Has anyone ever had this problem with the spark plug blowing out? I've been reading some reviews that it has happend to alot of the new ford engines. Mainly in expedtions but there were some on mustangs too.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

It's a pretty well known common problem on all Ford OHC V8 engines.

Happened to me a week ago, lol. It's not that common. Most stangs dont do it. On my car, it is always the same cylinder.

Hasn't happened to me, but a few friends have launched them. That's why I'm happy to pay $70 to have my shop do them for me. They're insured for such things.

The biggest years for this happening was 1999-2001- when it was romeo (I think, whichever factory did it for those years doing the heads) making them- they only put in four spark plug threads. These were not enough, and they would often strip.

In 2002, they made it eight threads per spark plug, which all but solved it.

Ummm, my neighbor has a `02GT, & he blew out one of his. None of the 4.6 SOHC have enough threads ( I don`t know about the DOHC versions). However, if you use a torque wrench when installing the plugs, & tighten them ONLY to between 11-13ft lbs. like the factory manual states. You should be ok. There also seems to be some controversy about using neversieze on the threads. I use a light coat of it on my plugs, BUT--- I check the tightness of my plugs with the torque wrench every couple months. Oh yeah!--- Only change the plugs when the engine is stone cold. If you don`t, you stand a good chance of removing the threads along with the plugs. (dissimilar metals & all that stuff).
