Sounds like you have anti theft device installed. You do not have PATS. That didn't start until 1997

You might have to take to a Ford dealer and get them to test your PATS system. You might have a short in the wiring like i did. After they tested it found the short and fixed it I was back on the road

Nope I have a 96 GT and I have the PATS installed from factory. So the 96 did have it.

did your car have the same symptoms as mine? im going to scan for dtc's tomorrow, i would hate to spend $100 on a new key if i dont need it! I got it really cheap because of this problem ($600 and only 80000 miles) the people couldnt afford to repair the car. In fact, i would probably reflash the ecu and have the pats disabled as i am going to be doing some mods to the car.

The key isn't expensive (approx $20 with cut if your a ford employee), try to find out how to program the key so you dont' have to pay the dealership to do it. I can't remember the steps, from what I remember, it's simple to do.

if i get the key for you it comes with instructions on how to do it, i pay $11 for the key, but im going to sell it for $20. then you have to pay like $2-3 to get it cut. i can get ferrari keys for $11. lol.
