Default 99-01 problems?

Im looking into getting a newer car and was wondering if there were any problems with the 99-01 that i should be careful about, since it was the first few years of a new body.

Not a chance. The 99-04 are the same mechanically with the exception of the transmission swap in mid 2001. I dont know when, but the later years have traction contol which is pointless to me. I know that all of the 99's were made at the Windsor plant, but im not sure about the others. The same miles, stock for stock, your gonna get a pretty even race

All the GT were the same. They changed the manual transmission in 2002 i think. The cobras weren't getting the HP that they said they were. That was a recall. But other then that they are fine.

Consumer reports rates the 99 00 above average reliability...01 02 average, and 03 below average. Stick with the T-45.

If it hasnt already been replaced in the 99-01, count on replacing the intake... the plastic water crossover will not take ANY abuse at all....and i had 3 coil packs go out on me but i think thats because i drove with the crossover split for a while and it kept a layer of water down in the spark plug holes shorting out the packs.

The only difference between 99,00 & 01,04 are the MAM. I believe there was a slight change.

Does anyone know if this was a recall or anything along that lines, I have the plastic crossover in my 01.

According to two different Ford dealerships that i've talked to the recall stopped at 98... apparently they "took care" of the problem in 99 and made it a "better" plastic cross over. I call bs cause it cracked like 2 months after i bought my car. So no, no recall for 99-01's... They'll want like $950 to replace it for you. My advice is if it cracks either buy a new one from mustang tuning for like $190 and do it your self, or i know carquest has the new intake packaged with all the requiered gaskets and even a new thermostate i think. It's really not that hard to do, it's just alot to remove and mess with... so take pics and label everything and you should be ok
