you need a tuner to delete the code then it wont throw the service engine light.

well i would just get MIL eliminators but dont they still use the machine that they hook up to the exhaust pipes that measures carbon? i have heard that some shops inspect the car mostly by computer these days, doesnt sound right though

Depends on the state. I know NY and NJ do tail pipe emissions. I know NC doesn't do tail pipe emissions.

NYS doesn't have a sniffer test. They'll just make sure your car isn't throwing a CEL, if you have MILs or a handheld then your all set.

maryland doesn't have the sniffer test either. I passed.

I can also fail a visual inspection if they see no cats...some people weld empty cats over the pipes to make it look like there are cats though. What state are you in?

in nj 96 and newer they dont use the sniffers anymore
