Default OMG i might cry... no false comfort please

ok guys.... ive just come to the conclusion that ever since ive had my car last november... 1 1/2 years ago... its always been pinging lightly and i never knew it ... i filled up with 87 and never thought anything of it because it says to in the manual ... i always thought the sound was normal... then i installed my peformance tune from diablosport... without even bumping the timing up any extra .. filled up with 91 ... and it pinged a little laouder in 4th and 3rd gear around 4k rpm... then i got scared.. i went and put my original tune back in, and my tank has 91 octane in it now, no pinging at all ... i think that it has to do with the crappy fuel quality in CA... anywys hers the question... my car still runs fine and everything , and it doesnt ping anymore with my stock tune and 91 octane... can the pinging effect my car later on even thought is stopped it now... or if its not broken now and i fixed it all should be fine... im scared my engine is gonna break on me ... i did stop the pinging though.. im just gonna run on my stock tune and use 91 octane gas and return or sell this diablosport thing , crap , pinging for a damn year and a half and i never even knew it , thats lovley... so ya my car works still and still runs hard.... but i fixed the pinging... do i have anyhing to look forward to like a broken engine in a while , or is it gonna be alright now that i fixed it? the truth... no false comfort please lol

by any chance was the timing advanced by the previous owner since you said its been knocking since you had the car. cause the knocking stopped once you put higher octane in your car.

i was using 87 all the time since i got it... i guess it was too low of an octane ... now im using 91 with the stock tune and its fine... if i put 87 back in with the stock tune itll prob ping again...

what i was say was possibally the cars timing was advanced by the previous owner. did you buy the car from the previous owner or a dealer ship and do you have a warranty.

i had a 2000 GT but i really dont know much about 4.6 but im just wondering cause the knocking/pinging disappeard once you put higher octane in it. so im guessing maybe your timing was advanced by the previous owner anmd you dint know it. again i am just guessing

cali gas sucks ***, pretty much 89 = 87 everyewhere else. according to Ford alittle pinging, even if for long periods of time, won't hurt anything. run 94 and put your tune back on, thats what I'd do

if i had 94 arond here i def would do that ... but 91 is the highest... and apparantly 91 is garbage because it cant even run the mild performance tune that diblosportputs int he predator... so i guess stock tune it is ... oh well ... i didnt really notice a diff anyways
