sure their better than stock, but honestly when you compare the cost and labor involved in change them its honestly a waste of time in my opinion. don't get me wrong, if longtubes didnt exist I might have gotten shorties... but then again I might have used that money on something worth more than 3 or 4 hp (longtubes = 20+ on a 99+ GT)

I am with Jon on this one, shortys will help out a lot, just not as much as long tubes. Not too mention you have to buy a new midpipe with LTs, they are a pain to install compared to shortys, and exhaust leaks are more likely with LTs. Those stock headers, if you even want to call them that, are super restrictive and suck butt. Anything larger than stock will help out a lot.

I know what you're saying, but if he can't pass emissions, then longtubes will be a hassle. Shorties wont give you as much hp, but once you get them in, you wont have to worry about them.

I live in NY and my inspection was due last month. Problem was I have
an off-road Bassani x-pipe. Good thing is I installed a set of mil
eliminators. The other good thing is I have a valid NY state inspectors
card. The shop I work at has a new system that all you have to do is
connect the machine to the car's OBD 2 connector and if all of the car's
emissions systems read read, the car will pass. The mil eliminators fool
the computer into thinking the cats are doing their job. So get a pair of
mil eliminators (and an inspectors card). Good luck!

I 'm also gonna have to agree with Jon too. If he is that worried about it and isnt 100% sure if hes gonna pass, then way waste the money. I could give 2 sh*ts about my emissions. That OBD2 is a wonderful thing. Like konnan said.....MIL's do there job.

Pa with 96 and up, OBD2 will pass the car with MIL eliminators and O2 sensors in place, no visual necesarry, you can also be exempt if you drive the car less than 5 k per year. On my 02 Gt vert I did all the bolt ons and longtubes last for little or no gain and lots of money and hassle, I still cant figure that out, ets were the same.
