Default HELP! Auto To Manual!

I have an '97 Plum Purple Mustang GT. It only has 60,000 on it, completely stock. Just picked it up.
I want to convert it from automatic to manual.
I know NOTHING about this type of project.
What parts would I need, and around how much would it cost me?

I would research this on google and such, you are just going to get a bunch of people in here telling you to sell the car and buy a manual one. Click the search button at the top of the forum and do a search for this...most the threads I read through all had people saying to just sell the car and buy a manual or people saying to build up the auto.

If your not gonna be doing the install, expect anywhere from 1000-3000 to do this, depending on how much you spend on parts.. It should take a shop about 8 hrs to do.

I will be doing my auto to t56 swap sometime in feb. With it being an older model of sn-95 and you just bought it, I would look into trading the car in for a manual. If I didnt have as much invested into the suspension as I do, I would have done the same.

I am going to be looking to do this soon as well. Not a whole lot of info out there besides to sell the car and buy one with a manual. I did the sway on a 95 GT, and it was cake. As long as you do not need to change the wiring and the ECM, Id say it is a pretty easy job depending on how much you know.

You need a throughout bearing, flywheel, clutch kit, pedals, and a clutch cable for sure. Im hoping to do mine for around 600 bucks.

I have looked into the swapping auto to manual and it looks really easy. The clutch is cable not hydralic operated witch makes it that much easier. You should not need to drill or cut anything due to the fact that made 5spd stangs. The parts you will need are " trans, driveshaft, flywheel, clutch, pedal assembly, manual ecu, manual wiring harness, new mid pips manual trans is longer i think, I think thats it?

When I changed out my 95 from an auto to a manual, I did have to cut about an inch on the floorboard where the trans comes up for the shifter. Nothing that my dremel didnt take care of. When I do it, I am going to try it without replacing the ECM and harness. I really dont see why it would need it personally.

With the amount you spend on the swap you could have bought a much newer/nicer 5 speed...... This is why we think ahead boys and girls [&:]

That's not always the case...I got my auto 00 GT for 6k. Still not even 100% sure I want to do the swap, I like having auto right now due to living in SoCal with crazy traffic. lol

The auto in my car is a POS. That is why I am swapping it. I could not sell it the way it shifts, and would spend more on a new auto than I would converting it to a 5 speed. I dont take the clutch kit into consideration for the cost, as even if I bought a used 5 speed, who is to say the clutch would be any good.

This is how I figure it:

Used t45 - 400.00
Flywheel + Turning- 40.00
Clutch cable and quadrent - 60.00
Pedals - 20.00

I mean that is a total of 520.00. I dont think that is unreasonable at all. Just have to shop around. Driveshaft should be the same, mid pipe, I already plan to upgrade to an Xpipe while doing the swap, but I dont think it would "have" to be changed. The ECM and wiring, I dont think the ECM is going to freak out. Just have to know what you are doing when it comes to wiring it all up.
