Default Spark Plugs

So how often do they need to be changed out and what is a good set to put in?

On an '04 the factory says 100k miles for normal service, 60k for severe service (trailer towing, excessive idling, etc.).I changed mine to Champion platinum-tip when I got the car at 30k miles (because I change everything that can be changed when I buy a used car, and use Champion plugs in everything we own) I'll probably do 'em again around 80k...

Thisraises an interesting issue, the 4-5 thread spark plug bores found in the pre-'03 2V engines(don't know about your Cobra) wereengineered with the notion of 2, maybe 3, plug changes over the entire life of the engine. If I had an earlier 2V engine I would consider that before changing plugs too frequently...

why not be safe then sorry? esp if you race the car or get on it. if all you do is commute back and forth and dont race it then follow the manual. but tahts just my preference and personal experience. since ive owned 2 fox's, one with 327k on it that i never had a lick of trouble out of because i kept ahead of the maintence schedule.

what i think cliffyk is sayin is on the 99 to 02 2v the heads only have 4 threads to hold in the spark plug and if you change them out to much it will wear down the threads and you will blow a spark plug out of your heads

wow....100k from the factory? honestly i was thinking it was gona be more like every 10 - 15 thousand miles or something.

i did buy it used and its got about 50k on the clock now, so i guess it aint gona be a bad idea to change em out. What would be a good set to get? Plus do they come in different sizes or anything that i should be looking for specific?

Thanks.

i changed my stock plugs at 70k, probably should have changed them sooner, but they looked fine when i pulled em out. i went with Autolite platinums, not sure exactly which plug. i wish i had known i'd be putting a supercharger on it eventually cause now i'm gonna have to put some colder plugs on.. oh well. i'm more worried about the 4-thread issue than anything. eventually i'm gonna do a complete rebuild with a forged bottom end and patriot heads, so i guess if i strip out a spark plug thread, i'll just do the rebuild earlier than expected
