Default Clutch problem...

Hi, I'm actually not new to this forum, I used to post under the name Cedarkill. But I lost my previous e-mail address and have since forgotten all my passwords to my other accounts, blah blah blah, now I have a new name and a PROBLEM, haha.

As far as the clutch problem, I was driving today, it it seems I lost about half of my clutch travel. The last few inches of the pedal travel seems to be gone and the pedal has a lot of play when the clutch is engaged. As you let the clutch out it seems to start grabbing where it always did and the clutch seems to be fully engaging, it doesn't seem to be slipping very much, if any. When I peg the throttle with the clutch fully engaged, it seems to rev normally and pull about normal, which leads me to believe the the clutch is grabbing just fine.

Is is possible that the cable may have stretched or could it have something to do with the quadrant or quadrant retuen spring. Please let me know what you guys think it could be and any suggestions as to what parts I may need to fix it up. The car seems to drive fine, but man, the pedal feels like crap! Something must be broken.

Have you tried putting your foot under the clutch pedal pulling it back towards you and back down several times? Thats how the clutch adjusts in the mustangs. After I do a lot of burnouts or donuts, my pedal feels really squashy. After Ive worked it up and down a few times it returns to normal.

Hey, thanks for the reply jdaniel. That did the trick, the clutch feels back to normal! That's nice to know, because it had me a little worried for a while there, haha, thought it may be a pain to get right again. I actually had this problem happen to me before, but not nearly as bad as far as the play in the pedal. I just kept driving and it went away it seemed, but this past time the play was a lot more and wouldn't go away. But after adjusting the quadrant, it feels good again.

I'm curious why that happens though, as you said when you do burnouts and stuff you have to allow the quadrant to re-adjust...Is it that the cable is stretching and you have to re-adjust the quadrant to take up the slack, or does the stock quadrant slip or something? Do I have to worry about the stock cable breaking on me if it's stretching?

I have no idea why it does it to tell you the truth. I just readjust it everytime. LOL Ive slowed down a lot now. Not that many burnouts or donuts. Glad the trick worked for you.
