Check engine scan tool. (already did a forum search)
OK i looked but couldnt find any info, my check engine light is on,
is there any way to find out what the code is with out a scan tool,
I know most new cars you can turn the key on/off about three times and it gives you a read out of the codes or blinks a certain number of times. Then you can find out what the code its. example if it blinks 4 times it means your O2 sensors are bad, or it ill give you a code like p-2234 or somthing on the dash.
Does anyone have any input for this? or do i just need to run a scan with a programer then rest the computer after i fix the code issue that runs on the scan tool?

I've heard of that on older Camaros, but not on the mustang. What kind of car are you driving? If its a modular mustang I SOL trying to find out what it is without some sort of scanning tool.

yeah 2002 4.6 5speed mustang, i have an x pipe with anti foulers on it, never had a prob. im going to try to scan it at a friends house and see if its the o2 sensors getting a bad read.
The other thing is the car shut off on me when i started it once today, and before it kinda sounded like it back fired, so i think its the 02s i may have to go buy the mills, the anti foulers might not be working anymore with my set up.

I know some cars have a built in code, like some camaros you have to turn the key on/off three times and it will blink a certain number of times, then you look up the factory code and BamB theres your problem.
sucks mustangs dont have this built into them, even my moms neon did this.
guess i got to go scan it

Very few OBD-II cars have this function, go to Autozone or nearly any other chain auto parts store and they will read the code--better yet buy a scan tool, you can get one at Harbor Freight for $40...

The shop manual possible causes for P0340 say nothing about the alternator, other than that "other improperly functioning systems may have intermittent impact on the CMP signal". Before you start throwing parts at the problem have a good auto-electric shop check out your alternator, they can put a scope on it and see if it's throwing out RFI or EMI...
