'01 Crown Vic Head: Same?
I ordered a head on Monday, and it came in yesterday so I picked it up.
It's from a 2001 Crown Victoria, loaded with camshaft/valves/valve train.....
Questions:
I believe the 4.6 heads are the same on all the cars. As in they are PI and compatible right?
Is the camshaft to the same specifications as the 4.6 Mustangs of the era, and how about the size of the valves?
There is only 9 holes for the valve cover, and I assume 11 with the timing chain cover in place, is this the romeo heads that need the other valve cover?

RE: '01 Crown Vic Head: Same?
Anyone else?
If someone knows where I could find the camshaft specs for each model, that'd be helpful.
Basically, if I find out the head is not compatible 100% INCLUDING cams/valvetrain, im taking it back and saying.. "hey, i asked for a compatible loaded head" take it back and find me a head from a Stang.
It's got a 30 day warranty so if I find anything I dont like with it, i'll be taking it back.
I really dont want to pay to have my **** swapped over, but i guess if it's cheap enough I might consider it..
who knows..

RE: '01 Crown Vic Head: Same?
Are the cams really the same?
If someones got a place where I can find the cam specs on the two, that'd be nice.
As for making different power..something wouldnt be quite right on a car thats making more power on one side than the other.. i dont even want to begin to think about the differences that would arise if the camshaft was different on one side than the other...

Why would you even take the Crown Vic head?
A 01 Vic 4.6 is only rated at 220 HP @ 4,750 rpm; 265 ft lb @ 4,000 rpm. Right there tells you the heads are different. I'd find a Crown Vic forum and find out what the cam specs are. This is probably where the less power is coming from. But I'm only guessing

Well smart guy, it's not at all like I can't swap over my cam/valve train to this other head.
But if it's the same..why pay to have it swapped??

RE: '01 Crown Vic Head: Same?
well you never told us why you were putting a crown vic head on your car in the first place. and wouldnt that seem like the simple solution to the cam problem, smart guy. physically the only other differencesin romeo and windsor heads is that one has a cam girdle instead of caps (cam journals are still the same so it will still drop in), the timing cover uses a little larger bolts (just use new bolts), and the valve cover is different.
