Default Shifting trouble

I have a 2000 GT with a t-45 trany and i can not shift into reverse without shifting into another forward gear first. If i try to shift into reverse from nuetral without putting it in another gear first the trany will grind. It shifts into all other gears fine. It was suggested to me that it may be a bad throw out bearing. Anyone have ideas?

My T-45 does the same thing. don't get all riled up about it, just put it into first beforehand, then you're good to go.

My trans whiped out 2nd gear @ 20,000 miles. It too has the same problem as yours. Sometimes I let the clutch out in neutral and try again to get it to go.

When i had my trans fixed after it broke, the ford guy said the plastic ball inside the shifter that helps you shift into gears was part of my problem.

It is the throw out bearing absolutely positive. I have a 99 gt and i had been having the same exact problem. then eventually after a couple of months when i pressed the clutch in i heard a sound like a rat wheel in my car, but when i left the clutch out it didn't make the noise. i since then have switched out my throw out bearing and threw in a new clutch while i was at it. no problems since then. but it is definetally the throw out bearing. cheap to get, expensive to install.

good luck.

I had that trouble.. but not any grinding though..

little short story; I was just driving down the road one day and missed my turn off.. Soo my dumba** decides to make a U-turn in the road.. So my car is half on the road and half on the gravels.. I was near the guard-rail.. so I take my time backing up.. (Usually my car will go into reverse easily) but for somereason today it decides not to and.. well i end up sliding into the guard-rail.. hehe laugh all you want, so i'm gonna end up getting a new bumper soon!
