Default Supercharger Question

I am looking to buy a supercharger for my 04 GT (Automatic). How much do they run and how much do they cost to get installed?

Also, am I going to need to make any other modifications to it after it's installed for the car to perform right or to get the maximum benefit out of the supercharger?

I haven't made any modifications to my car yet, am looking to get started in the next couple of weeks.

It greatly depends on what type and brand you are looking for. Used in the mid to high 2k range, thru almost 7k (for a 2.1 KB).

Yes

You can buy a complete centrifugal supercharger kit from anywhere between $4,000 to $4,500. Most suppliers offer a custom tune w/ the kit. Some like Vortech, you have to send them your ECM so they can reprogram it. You can get a twin screw kit too, their around $4,500 to $5,500. They come with a chip or with a programmed tuner. MAF Meter, Intake plenum, Throttle body, ect. ... are all after goodies.

A Procharger P-1SC is about $4,500 for a complete kit that includes intercooler, fuel injectors, fuel pump and pre-programmed chip. The only thing extra needed is spark plugs and maybe a fan belt. Installation ran approximately $1,000. You can put it on a pure stock motor with 8 lbs of boost and get approximately 350 rwhp. No other modifications are absolutely necessary.

I checked out a Saleen superchagrer. It cost about the same but the installation was about $1,800. It produced lower peak horsepower and was very expensive to upgrade. Most of the people on these forums do not like Saleen superchargers

You can get a Vortech for less (without intercooler). Watch out for tuner kits which have low prices. They do not come with everything you need.

That price and results are right about what I was looking for. Ultimately I want to get my car up to about 400-450hp and improve the handling/braking.

if you wanna keep the rest of the car mostly stock, then go with a centrifugal supercharger, but if your goin with a roots style blower like kenne bell or whipple, it'd be a good idea to rebuild the motor before you put one on so the motor doesnt blow up..also change your injectors

I love the saleen superchargers. They are just way too expensive for the amount of power they produce. Why spend more money for less HP? If they cost less, then you'd see a lot more people running around with them. They also look so nice under the hood.

That's not bad at all. Ultimately, I'm looking to spend about 10-15 grand on my car to make it about 450hp, improve the handling/braking, get more power off the line, etc. But again, I don't want to overpay for any modifications I have done and I want to get the most bang for my buck(s).

would it be advisable to put a supercharger on a 1998 GT with over 200 thousand miles on it?
