how far does the spark plug protrude from the cylinder head? i'm still thinking that if the piston came up and hit the spark plug, then a valve would have been hit too.

Tbird, Hole #1 & 2seem to always go under detonation. From looking at the pic, it must have been knocking pretty good. Looks like aluminum specs on the insulator. It is a good chance it broke a small pc. of the piston top/ring land. At that point, got caught between the plug and piston.

I have never torqued sparkplugs on anything i just start it with a extension and a sparkplug socket turn it till I cant turn it anymore by hand then I snug it up with a wratchet about 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.

I was just considering all possibilities, Tbird is taking too long to get the evidence!

Sorry, I was busy crying. JK

Well, I borescoped it today and its official. I blew off part of my ring land. There's about an inch long piece missing of the top of the piston. Its still maintaining compression and running fine though. I couldn't find the broken off piece, but it was really hard to maneuver the scope in the cyl.

Like haney said, looking at the plug, there is obvious signs of detonation, which is strange that all of a sudden I had issues. Maybe jus the wring combination of conditions. I have never had any knock and I've been running virtually the same setup for almost a year now.

I guess its time to shop around for a shortblock.

Truly sorry to hear that. Oh snap!

What were you running for timing?

How about the lower RPMs? I think its time to look for a good knock sensor or very long stethoscope.

if it was overtorqued it could damage the threads and if the plug comes loose and the threads in the head are damaged it can go in farther....not torquing it right in these heads can damage the threads on the head itself and cause the plug to go in farther and get shot out of the head...its happened to a ton of people on here, including myself....that is how it was explained to me when it happened to me, if thats a wrong explanation sorry....theres tons of threads about blowing plugs here...which is essentially what he did... im surprised it didnt get shot out
Nothing is going to make the plug screw farther in... plug blowout is not a result of the plug doing this, its a result of the ****ty thread design failing completely and letting the spark plug blow out of the hole. Its not smacked out by the pistion, its blown out by the compression.
