Rear main seal
I got under my car a couple of days ago to change the oil and saw a bunch of oil/sludge on the front of the transmission bellhousing and on the back of the oilpan...in that general area. I looked to see if it was one of the valve cover gaskets leaking (I had a post about that at some point a couple weeks ago), but both of the heads are clean on the underside, and the block is relatively clean as well. I have a couple of questions for you guys: 1. it's not leaking that much oil (a quart or two every oil change) so how beneficial would it be to replace it vs. letting it leak; and 2. are there any special tools/skills needed to do this job? I've read other posts on here that suggest that the clutch won't necessarily be ruined because the flywheel bolts up to the seal, so if it's just going to leak oil, until it gets really bad, I see no point in tackling it until other stuff in that area needs to be replaces. I've done clutches on Miatas and they were relatively simple, but the driveline was nowhere near this big. If I could get some input from you all on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Its prretty easy to do a main seal in a 4.6.... im guessing thats what you have. remove the driveshaft, then the trans then remove the clutch and flywheel.... then you rip her out and tap in a new one. Then reassembly
