Can it ever really be short enough?

Shorter = better shifts. Why would you not want a shorter shift?

Get them both and decide for yourself. I would opt for the blue handle though.

Blue = SHORT and firm, but have to reach a bit and not a lot of leverage for those with notchy cold shifts.
Red = short, but less firm. Easier to get to. More comfortable for every day use.

I have both and have the red on right now. It is a quick 5 min swap, so get both.
