Default Coil Pack lifespan

I'm approaching 50,000 miles.

I'm going to go ahead and replace my plugs, what is the average lifespan of the coil packs?

What do you listen for to know it is indeed a misfire?

On the police patrol cars they start going around 50-60k miles. But then again these cars run 10 hours a day non stop. 50k miles is a true 100k plus. Kinda expensive, I would only replace them on a as needed basis.
