well try getting parts to let the motor breathe. A TB and Plenum with a throttle body space and K&N filter which cost anywhere from 300-500 dollars you might be able to do it. Or you can go exhaust and prices are about the same.

Well the PI head swap and PI intake(the plastic black piece) should put them about the same but your looking at close to 2 grand. i have a 96GT and dont have the money to make it fast. most of the mods we can do wont do much cuz the cars still not breathing and recieveing fuel the right way. your best bet is to get cat-back exhaust, h/x pipe, and headers so your car will sound mean or sell it and get a 99+.

Actually with a PI swap on a NPI car, it will perform better due to the fact that the heads raise the compression ratio to 10.5:1. The PI chambers are 9cc smaller (PIs are 42cc, NPI is 51cc). So really you would be faster than a car that is stock PI because of your raised compression. That is assuming you have the right air/fuel ratio, and exhaust to accomodate the increased flow.

you can pick up a set of PI heads cams and intake for a few hundred dollars. i paid 400 for mine. you could bolt then onto the car and not have to change the headers or intake etc... but of course it would be a good time to do so since you have it apart. the above post explains exactly why the pi heads alone would give you more power. anything you do on top of it is gravy. i'd at least add a set of gears if nothing else though. those few extra ponies will benefit better fromn a 3.73 or 4.10 gear than the stock 2.73.

agreed, to be better than a 99-04 GT, you're gonna need PI heads/intake, and you'll need a 3.27 rear ring/pinion or better. Get no less 3.73s (I'm assuming you have a 5 speed, correct me if i'm wrong. I recommend 4.10s in this application.
