I heard something on the radio a few days ago about a law being changed for a penalty of up to 7 years in prison for leaving the scene of a accident. But anyways if you want to find out where you vehicle was towed your going to have to go to your local police station if you want to have your car realeased from impound. But I wouldnt worry about that since the police will probably be on there way to your house to have a talk with you shortly if it was your car that you smashed up. BTW, your going to have to pay for the sign probably.

You'll have to check your local laws. I'm pretty sure no matter where you live it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident, whether on foot or in your car. It has now become a hit and run - property. That's not as bad as injuring another person, but it's not good. Technically you can leave your car to seek medical attention, but you have to report that you had an accident within 24 hours to the police ( this is in Virginia). If the car is in anyway registered to you, they will come to you anyway. By leaving the scene you grab yourself a hit and run, but possibly dodge a DUI charge. Reporting it stolen would be the worst possible thing to do, first thing the police would do is test the blood.

If you report it stolen, they are going to do an investigation and check for prints, when they don't find any they will look at you. They might even call your house. Unless you have all you VIN's scratched off and removed the plates, they will find you. They will tow the car and wait for you to show up, or call to find out where it is. With that much damage the insurance company will most likely total it. I had this happen to a friend of mine. It's not pretty. It was also a DUI.

you're a moron if you left your car at the scene of an accident. Most likely you were drinking... so avoiding the DUI will probably get you into more trouble. ONly positive thing about this is, they can no longer charge you with a DUI but rather as a public nuisance and for fleeing the scene of an accident. Which I believe if it does not involve another person is only a misdameanor (sp). They will most likely suspend your liscense, impound your car, and should administer a good beating for simply being stupid.

And you guys paying $200+ a month for insurance... WTF is up with that? I'm about to turn 21, no accidents, one ticket (and it was removed, safety class taken and all, no points on my liscense) and I only pay $147/month. I havea safe driver discount, good student discount. You guys need to go to school and make good grades, saves me about $400+ every six months!
