Default COP's

i want to check my spark plugs to make sure there all working and was just wondering if i disconnected the cop if it would throw a check engine light?

I don't think so. I disconnected mine to see if they were throwing a spark, and it never threw a code.

No, I don't think they throw a code either. A couple of my COP'swere bad and it never showed a CEL. You would think it would though.

its safe to do.

i still pull all my cop plugs every once in awhile to be safe. there's a good deal on some accel coils on MMR

My CEL light is on and it is running a little rough, Auto Zone says it is a miss fire on #5 cylinder, so I'm guessing it is a COP on that cylinder.

It will throw a CEL if you let it run for a while with a coil disconnected, it just won't do it immediately. It doesn't sense that the coil is disconnected, it just senses a misfire. After a few hundred misfires, it sends out the CEL.

Also, if the CEL does come on for a misfire, it will turn itself off after driving it for a while after the problem is fixed. You don't neccesarily need to get the code 'cleared'.
