Engine Swap
Does anyone know the biggest engine we can fit in our cars without problems? i know we can fit a 351. anyone know if we can go bigger... reason i am asking is cause i was thinking of doing a engine/tranny swap.. not yet though cause i only have 50k on my car and think it would be better to hold it out and save up more money.. i was lookin at a 460 stroked 514 block will this fit? or should i just stick with a 351 stroked 392? also would i have a lot mods i would have to do to make this work?... take it easy on me guys i am on this forum a lot but i just read i never post cause it seem a lot of people take it hard on noobs... but this is how you learn right? thx guys!!
I was looking into this possibility a while back, and realized, it would be good, if it wasn't my daily driver..
There are a lot of custom made things that need to occur (i.e. exhaust, engine/tranny mounts, driveshaft, wiring harness, etc...) before you can even think about lowering a new engine in..
I do believe that you'd also need to have a lot of patience... I had a 351M that I just got rid of because the aftermarket support wasn't what I thought it would be, versus the 351W, or 351C.
Now going w/ the 460, that's great for power, but parts are expensive... Depending on your budget, the sky's the limit..
It all boils down to, what do you want to spend, and what do you want to be your end result??

i dont care about having it a daily driver... just a weekend warrior and a track car... i would like to get into the 10's....i found a 460 for $8,656.?? shipped... and then of course i would need a great tranny which would probly run me 2-3 k correct? by this september i will have 12,000 to put into it then after taxes and my next deployment i should be around 17-20 k ...
do you think i could get the 460 to fit in these cars? along with everything else that has to be on the car..
how much do you think i would have to spend on this idea? if i try to do it all myself lol...
thx

Well, I don't wanna lie to you and tell you which one to get, but my choice would probably be either a C4/C6, or if you can find a bell housing that will work w/ a T-5, or something along those lines...
Wish I could help you more, but I've never done a swap of that nature...
And something tells me that $8k for a 460 means you'll probably get a lot of stuff, but not everything (i.e. long block).
As for fitment, see if you can have the person/company measure the length, width and height of the block, and then measure your clearances of your engine bay... My guess is that the block may be too long to just drop right in.. 460 Big block is a big *** engine..
But hey, you can get into the 10's with a 302.. (You'd beat the engine to death, but you could do it)..
Why not spend that $8k on a 03-04 Cobra engine, and the other $2k on the T-56?? You can easily get into the 12's, and with about a $1k more, you could get into the 11's easily..
The choice is yours.. Just understand all of your options before you jump...
