Default IRS and radials

I have a 99 cobra and i know it has the IRS system. I was planning on getting some micky thompson drag radials but i hear since they get so much traction, a god launch will easily snap the axels since it isnt a strong and sturdy as non IRS axel. does anyone know if this is true?

it may or may not happen. it is just a roll of the dice I have seen IRS and live axles snap with sticky tires on cars with a few bolt ons. it would just be a good idea to upgrade when the time and money permit

i always thought the live axles were stronger as well, and i only heard, not seen, that IRS can't take as much abuse. I thought I remember reading in Hotrod or somthn' that they grenaded the IRS on an older cobra by launching hard with sticky *** tires. But then again, the 03/04 cobras are IRS, and you can get ungodly amount of power outa those with a few bolt on's, and those seem to take the beating. Maybe they put stronger cv shafts in those...???
