Default Wearing front tire

Hey all, posting this for my girlfriend. She has an 04 GT with ~18k on it. When she was over here the other weekend I noticed the front drivers side tire was wearing the outside edge. It was worn almost slick on the edge whereas the rest were still perfect tread. So she took it this past week and had tires rotated and tried to have an alignment done. When they put it on the rack (this is what she was telling me the mechanic said) it was within spec for the alignment but the tire is still cockeyed and that he could 'make new holes' because the factory ones wouldnt fix the condition.

Now I know nothing about mustangs so I am asking if this is a common problem with these things, or if the guy is just full of crap and she needs to take it somewhere else, or if perhaps the car has been wrecked somewhere in its past.

sounds like it needs more camber adjustment. sometimes the factory adjustment slots are not enough, and need to be enlarged. sounds like it could have been hit at one time. or possibly the strut or spindle are bent.

It may have possibly been lowered before she got it and the stock setup usually only has enough adjustment for a 1-1.25" drop.

camber adjustment, but shouldn't need to "make new holes", they should just be able to loosen and move over. when I had mine done the holes were more like slots that allowed for adjustment if needed.

True but if his car has been hit etc. the slots may need to be made bigger for more adjustment. Becuase the factory adjustment may not be enough

Did the mechanic check the tie-rods at all?? If you can, get the toe- measurements and maybe even SAI if they provide it...

Wrong.
They will have to make new holes if she does not have aftermarket C/C (caster, camber) plates.

The OEM "holes" are slots, not hugely long slots however they do permit some camber adjustment. On mildly lowered cars you can use a rattail file toopen up the slots toward the "outside" (1/8" to 3/16") to gain enough camber adjustment without CC plates--I would not open them up any more than that because you would be compromising the strut tower's integrity, however Ihave done this on 2 or 3 cars and successfully gotten camber within spec.

What I'm wondering though, is why would the camber be THAT positive?? There's definitely something else amiss here... Does anyone know off hand if they use eccentric adjustments on the lower control arms??

No, the adjustment is done only through positioning the upper strut mounting plate. The spec is -0.5° +/- 0.75° (I.e. -1.25° to +0.25°)
