Default T45 question

I have a 96GT, andhave a chance to buy a T45 that needs new syncros for 100.00. Right now my car is an auto and I am debating on swaping the auto out for a 5 speed. A buddy of mine can rebuild the T45 for me, and it looks like the rebuild kit is around 250.00 or so. So I guess what I am wondering, is it worth my time to even screw with a T45, or should I save my money for a 3650 or T56 down the road which would take some time. I really hate this auto and want to see it gone. Can a T45 be built decent to hold any kind of power past stock? It seems like either people have good luck with them, or no luck.

I just finished my PI swap this week. I plan on getting the car tuned very soon, and from what I have been reading, I should not need to swap out the ECM's if I get my auto's tuned for a manual.

the 3650, I would not recommend they have a lot of syncro problems and aren't much stronger. The T45 can handle power past stock but if you are going to really build your car say 400+ HP then save your money and get the T56, TKO. As far as the price it is reasonable, you should be able to get a used and working T45 for about 350-400 dollars.

A T-45RS with carbon fibre/kevlar synchros, and the same 26 spline input shaft that's on the the TKO can handle 450 ft/lbs of torque. 1300 bux. Just saying.

Im looking at buying a new tranny and wanted to buy the T45R when I called they said that tremec is not longer making parts for the T45 and they are taking it off their website. So Im going with the TR3650, looks to be a pretty good transmission formy needs, ddperformance has them on their site for $999

I wouldn't get the TR3650, parts will still be available for the T45 based on demand, just probably not from tremec. check the search cause many people have problems with the 3650.

Thanks for the replies. I am just up in the air on what I want to do. It will take about a year for me to be able to afford a T56 or something of that nature. Then again, I dont want to go cheap either, and be rebuild trannys every other month.
