One Wheel Spinning During Burnout

One Wheel Spinning During Burnout
Hi all,
I need some input, I had installed my offroad x pipe and catback over the weekend, afterward I wanted to test it a lttile, I did a small brake torque, sounded awsome, but, when I looked at the peel marks, only the right side left a mark. so, it seems that the rearend is in need of some work now..
I've only had the car for a year and 3 months. I haven't noticed any noise from the readend..
It is a 2002 gt convertible with round 75000 miles on it. The only mods on it is a bbk cai, the new offroad x pipe with catback (Pypes) and sct tune for 93 octane.
Does anyone have any advice on this issue? Sounds like it may be time to have it rebuilt, with a new gear in it.

The differentials on these are famous for going out. I would suggest not messing with it until you can afford to do a full differential replacement. I've had Auburn, Powertrax, Richmond, and all seem to hold up much better. Also, while you're in there, put a gear in it. Don't put anything less than a 4.10, 4.56 is ideal.
You can drive it like it is for a long time, you just won't get perfect launches and you'll only spin one tire. Not a big deal if it's a daily driver. I drove an open differential mustang for years.

i read the other guys' comments and they're right but if you can't afford it then just replace that clutch pack in the rear end (gotta do it regardless). It's probably the only thing bad in there, but like they said you might as well rebuild it if you gotta get inside your rear-end (4.10 31 spline axles and lsd) only if you plan on racing it though. if your not into that then at least put a 3.55 gear in it (3.26 sux!)

I have the same issues... you don't need to go out and buy a new diff for 500 bucks, unless you want to be a full-on dragracer. it's much cheaper to re-build it with the kit. Just be sure to get the one with the carbon clutches, a little bit more but it'll grab alot better.

It's not a small job to replace the ring and pinion "while you're in there" if you're just going to replace the clutches. Replacing the ring and pinion becomes much more involved, and can't be done as easily with basic garage tools.

That's what you're looking for, a rebuild kit, NOT an entire new differential.
Mine has started to weaken at 50k miles, but it still holds strong. Came out both ways in the last auto-cross... Doesn't do doughnuts in the wet to the right any more, only left [8D]

I would replace it completely unless you want to rebuild it every 40k miles. A better differential will last hundreds of thousands of miles. If you're on a tight budget, I guess rebuilding is better than nothing. Also, you can drive it like it is for a long time while you save up.
