Its almost time to drop in my 2001 4.6 into the tired 1996's spot. My questions are:

Since the 2001 has no oil level sensor what do I do with the cable? cut or tie it off? Will this cause a check engine light?

Will the 2001 or 1996 Serp belt fit? I am using all the bolt on accesories from the 1996 with the exception of a 2001 alternator

Will the 1996 stock exhaust manifolds fit the newer block? (until I can get headers)

Cut it off and no it wont cause a light.

The belt will fit. only accesory that Im not sure about is the tensioner.

Just use the 01 manifolds so you dont have to take them off. Yes the 96s will fit if you have to use them.

 

if your using your old ecu, you'll need to get it reprogrammed!

 

How do I get my ECU re-programmed? doI need a tuner? Can the car run on the stock 96 mapping until then?

 

Yes, it can run off the old ecu. You wont get the full gains till you get the 4v fuel maps and timing. You'll need to get a custom tune and not just a chip or hand held. Find a mustang shop in your area that tunes with SCT or Diablo.
