I have a stock mustang gt conv (2002). I'm trying to get up to 300hp so I can spank on an SRT-4.

I lost by a half car-length to one this past weekend. I could have taken him if I had manual trans, but I have automatic transmission. I had a good launch on him too, so that's what scared me. What's the least expensive way to get to 300hp? I'm not ready to upgrade gears just yet, so what bolt-on's should I get first?

bolt on wise, you're not gonna find anything to give you that much power unless you get nitrous. there's a post in here asking the same thing as you except he lost to a maro. since you lost to an srt4 by only half a car, just get the gears. why aren't you ready? it's not gonna kill your gas mileage like a bunch of people claim. you'll get really good mileage if you don't lay on the gas to feel it kick ya back. that's what causes your mileage to go down. get some 4.10s and you'll have a nice lead on him.

i ran up on a srt-4 last week, i pulled him by about half a car, they are right quick for a 4 banger.

anything can be right quick with F/I. i say get the 4.10s. i got 3.73 and at first i thought it was too much of a gear. now i'm regretting not going with 4.10. the RPMs aren't nearly as bad as you think.

Funny you mention it, yesterday at a high school drag competition I witnessed a 5.0 lose to a cavalier, I know it's no neon but I couldn't help but grimace and shake my head. I forget what e/t it ran though.

My buddy has a srt-4 with straight through exhaust, boost controller, and he has been running it w/ 101 octane and we raced today and it wasent as bad as i thought it was going to be, he had me by 2 cars in the end (0-120mph), they are very fast s.o.b.'s (but i dont have my steeda Underdrive pullies or mmac timing adjuster installed yet either...)
