Octane rating

RE: Octane rating
Probably colder as there is so much retarder in the mix to keep high compression engines from predetonation. Unless you are running a race engine of some kind with a heavy compression ratio it is a total waste of time to even consider that high of an octane rating. I use 89 and my car runs strong. Over advancing the timing will also cause the need for much higher octane fuels. No need to overdue it as there are better things to further enhance your power curve than advancing the timing to the moon. Not to mention paying close to $3.00+ a gallon for the real high octane stuff. Put an Accufab plenum on it and get 3.73 gears. That will definitely do way more than any wild *** advancement of your spark and timing. If you knock on 93, you've definitely gone too far for no real benefit. Besides, lower octane fuels have more exposive power than premiums with all their retarders in them. If you have custom heads and forced induction of some kind, then you may need higher octane plus the next cooler plug. Lots of different "what if's" but generally speaking your car is tuned for regular unless you have a Cobra.

RE: Octane rating
yea, its 3.60 a gal for 101, i put 7 gals in and only noticed a bit more power, not worth the money, i just wanted to try it, but when i get my timing adjuster put on (10 degrees advance) i will be running constant 93 through it...

RE: Octane rating
Using octane higher than 93 with stock timing would do absolutely nothing for performance. I don't know where you got that idea?
But anyways, don't do that again. You'll be sorry you did it. Why will you only go 10 degrees with a timing adjuster? It's not even worth the money and stock timing on a 99+ is 10 degrees advanced. You must be confused.
You want to bump it up to 14 degrees.

RE: Octane rating
the timing adjuster is only 10 degrees MAX on top of the 10 the car already gives, im not going to worry about 4 more degrees, and for the o2's and cats, a quarter tank of 101 wont hurt the o2's and i have no cats, but thanks for the info!!
