Default timing chain question

This might be a stupid question but does anyone know if the timing chains off a 4.6L used in a '94(i think) Lincoln town car would fit on the '96 Mustang GT! If so I saved some money for now. Thank you too all!

I can't tell you for sure, but in all honesty; I don't think that I would want to use a used set of timing chains on my Mustang.

Seems to me like that would be one of the last places you would want to cut corners if you're doing engine work.

i 2nd that ^

and why do u need a new timing chain set? how many miles are on the motor? are you sure its not your chain tensioners going out? that could cause some problems as well.

He could be doing a PI swap and just wants to change out the tensioners and chains.

Even then though, I'd still go with new instead of used.

hey well i just found out that the timing chains are still good, not broken in other words. The guy I bought it off of said that the timing chain broke. So that just made my day but now I dont know what is wrong. Could the timing be off? Every site I look at says about the same thing and as far as I can tell the marks on the cam sprokets sit at the right spot, but I see no marks on the chain when at top dead center. Plus I dont have the timing chain cover off so I dont knowwere the flywheel sproket marks are butI would assume they are in the right place. At one point in turning the flywheel pullyI sawwhat appeared to be a pen mark or marker on the driversidechain but it wasnt matched up with the mark on the sproket so I would assume that my timing is off. Any help or opinions on whatI can do to fix this problemand if anyone has had this problem, how was it? Thank You for your help!

You can replace timing chains and tensioners with new for well under 200, best route to take IMHO!

Yeah I called the ford dealer in town and they said they could get the chains for like 40 a piece, but I dont need them now I guess.

This does not necessarily mean that the timing is off in your car.

For example, when I was reassembling the head on my 99, we marked the links on the bottom sprocket on the crank, and then lined up the cams timing mark on the chain. However, after rotating the crank a couple of times, the marks no longer line up because the gears are different sizes.

I tihnk somewhere it says after about 56ish rotations, it will line back up to the original sprockets and marks.

To be really sure if you're timing is off though, the cover would have to come off.

To take a guess about your car though, we don't know what's wrong with it. You havent given us any other information anywhere have you? Other than the timing chain is not broken...what led you to suspect that?
