You could always get a pre-99 GT, or maybe even a earlier cobra and use the left over money to build it up . Why spend ALL your money on the car, wheres the fun in that. You won't have any $$ left over for mods. Get an older stang and put some money into it and you will smoke 99+ GTs.

What you can get will depend on your area. You should be able to find 2002+ GT w/ low miles for that kind of money. Probably find a higher mileage pre-2003 cobra, or higher mileage Mach 1.
Since you've not had a sports car before, I'd recommend a lower mileage, late model GT. All the power you need getting started. Just my $0.02.

^^^^And both will net you a even higher insurance bill, if you want to keep that as low as you can stay away from Cobras!!!
