Ok gents, I'm stuck at the moment. Some douch rocket worked on my car a while back and apearantly put the crank pulley on with the bolt in kind of sideways; and then proceeded to tighten it anyway! So now, I'm missing about 1/3 of the threads on the crank pulley bolt as well as in the crankshaft. The bolt is still in there and holding fine, but I want to fix this problem before I sell the car to someone.

Anyone know what size tap I'll need to do this? I have a guy that will do it, but doesn't have the size needed. If I go get the correct size, he'll do it for me. Either that, or does someone know a place near Charlotte, NC that will do this? I have the bolt already, all I need is for someone to rethread the crank.

not sure of the size but someone can help if you bring the bolt to a hardware store or a reputable parts store (autozone and the like usually dont know what they are talking about)

I have no clue what size tap you will need. Call Harris Racing in Concord, they should know what you need, but I wouldn't come through here until after the race this weekend.

Those need to be pretty precise! Also, all you need for catching thread is the width of the bolt. Those bolts are 1/4"-3/8 at the largest. That's all you need in reality. If it's in place already and hasn't moved or loosened, I would leave it be! Start opening up that hole and you may find your self in a can of worms and possibly replacing that entire crank![:@]

The bolt is a 12mm x 1.50 pitch thread. Re-tapping it will be doable but difficult, but if he has an internalthread chaser should be no problem, good luck.

Thanks for the information, gentlemen. I found a machine shop in Charlotte that said the would be willing and able to do it. They also said they might have to helicoil it. We'll see, but at least they're confident they can get it done
