Default problem with march UDP's

so i bought a set of march UDP's, and i was going to start with the alternator, so i took it down to autozone so they can change the pulley only to discover that the new one does not sit securely on the hub shaft of the alternator. go back home and look in the box to see two "shims" i guess you would call them, that when i took it back to autozone find that they fit perfectly on the shaft. so i thought cool this is obviously where these things go, but no matter what combination i use the shims nothing fits securely and the pulley wobbles on the shaft. does anybody know what the deal is here? 2001 gt
