HELP! Check Engine Light Code Diag
Hey guys, new to the forum and need help ASAP
I have had a check engine light on since i bought my 1996 gt...had x-pipe with not cats...obvious right?
Well i am selling the car and have a buyer on the hook pending fixing the light and getting past a texas emissions test. so i went to a local muffler shop and had two brand new cats put on...light went off for about 150 miles and then today no kidding on the way to meet the buyer the light popped back on.
I quickly went and had an inpsection place diagnose it and came back with " P1464 - Air conditioning demand out of self test rang"
They didnt know what the problem was without further getting into it. Has anyone hear of this code before and know what it means and how to fix it? I need any help ASAP...trying to sell this week and have another car on hold pending my sale.
THANKS!!!!

I did have the ac on the past few days after the cat install. It says to turn off and then rerun test. How should i do that? Can I disconnect the battery cable and then run the car for a bit?
Also, if i dont know much about the AC power...ie i would know how to check the wiring ac clutch connector? how would i go about looking at it? Sorry for being ignorant...i am more of a bare bones muscle car guy and never work on cars with AC haha and at that i am limited on DIY.

Okay so i disconnected the battery cables and the light is off....for now. I drove it a couple of miles around the block and it hasnt come back one.
I will drive it to work and add about 40 miles ....if it stays off hopefully the probelm is fixed?
Any other feedback?

Well, as i suspected the light cam eback on this morning on the way to work. I dropped it off ata local ford dealer and they are supposed to get into today. hopefully it is simple like the shop manual says...none of that seemed to be too serious.
Thanks.
I just got a call from the dealership...looks like it will be about 300 big ones. Didn't expect that much...200 for labor and about 90 for a purge flow sylonoid and a flow assembly....does this sound right? didn't think that would be this much

You can figure $200 for labour anytime you mention AC, the parts price sounds reasonable. You might want to get a 2nd quote from a local independent AC shop, sometimes they can be a lot less, sometimes a lot more, but it doesn't hurt to ask...
Well for the sake of time and getting this thing sold...i had them go ahead and fix it for that price...that is 600 so far into getting this stupid thing to pass emissions and then get the light off just to sell the damn thing...o well one step closer to my new ride.
