Boy was i Took!!
I Bought a 97 Mustang GT fully loaded in Dec 07 The Vin # Shows that I SHould have had a LSD 8.8 rear end a 2.73 gearing. Well a couple months go by and i find out that Only One wheel is hooking up(I kept getting Stuck in the Snow) Since I am in a wheelchair this is not a good thing to happen So I wanted to fix the LSD I Bought all the Parts to rebiuld it Plus a ring and pinion to bring down the gears to 3.73 I Finally had enough Money to go get these parts Installed. When I get a Phone call from the shop telling me i have NO LSD and that the rear end is NOT a 8.8 but a 7.5!! I just found this out Friday June20th it is now the 23rd I have spoken about this to my Mechanic and one other person my Mech says I Should go back to the place i bought this car from since it is a dealership(Kelowna Mazda in B.C. Canada) and ask for either a 8.8 rear end or some $$ Back. I feel the same way but i am wondering if that "As Is" clause would be in effect. So I figured i would come here and see what kind of response and help i could find.
Thanks
Malcom
does any of the paper work say its a 8.8?
like the window sticker w. the options listed on it... if its says 8.8 lsd you might be in good shape
as is means if something breaks on the way home its your problem not theirs... as is doesnt mean they can lie about what the car is/has

I would go to the dealer. As is only means they wont cover things that break but since nothing broke and you just happened to find out you were lied to they should either replace it or give money back. More then likely they will tell you were to stick it but if they are cool they can get a 8.8 from the junkyard and have it brought to your mechanic.

My question is what is a sixxer rear doing in a gt?

A quick VIN check will tell you if the car is a GT of V6. Personally I think the above happened. if the car was sold AS-IS and no description was given, you are SOL. BUT, if they stated what options were installed and it says 8.8 or LSD you have something to use.

Someone owned a V6 and probalby figured since they were trading the car in they would swap the GT rear into their car before selling it.

+1 if there's nothing stating it had an 8.8 the AS-IS clause will screw you. Unfortunately I doubt that there was anything stating that from a Mazda dealership. You might be screwed

It's an 11 year old used car. Even if it had a v6 engine in it and it's a GT title would mean SQUAT! Pick up a locker unit for a 7.5 dirt cheap on ebay and call it a day. The 97gt hasn't enough power to worry about breaking that 7.5 215hp vs the 190hp that came in the v6 is not all that much! I knoe guys that ran 600rwhp on a stock 7.5 rear with a locker and no troubles. Same size axles as a gt.
Your piece of mind isn't worth the hassle. You will never know the diff once you get a locker and your gears in. All 7.5 parts are cheaper than the 8.8 all day

sorry to hear that bro!I honestly don't think you will have any luck going back to the dealership. You can try, but you'd be wasting your time. If the "As Is" sticker was on the car, you got it as is. Go to a junk yard and get you an 8.8.
