Removing Mach 460 amps?

Removing Mach 460 amps?
I know almost nothing about stereo stuff. I'm putting the car on a slight diet. Nothing crazy, still full interior and such.
I hardly ever listen to the radio as it is. Can I take out the amps/rack in the trunk, and still have a working stereo?

RE: Removing Mach 460 amps?
if its the mach 1000 (comes with the amps and subs) then i think when u disconnect the amps from the truck i think only the front speakers will work i think the back speakers and subs are powered by the amps.

You should be fine the front speakers are powered by the amp under the radio. To test it fold your rear seats down and look up at the box and you will see where the harness plugs into the amps. Just unplug them and make sure everything still works. FYI you can unplug the harness that powers the rear box that way you can sell the box with the harness if you wanted

RE: Removing Mach 460 amps?
i have aftermarket deck and speakers and have basically removed the mach stuff. if you take the rear amp rack out comepletely you will only have the front tweeters working as they are powered by the headunit. also to remove it you have to take the carpet on the rear deck off to get to the screws. then i removed the amps from the racks to unplug them from the wireing. any questions pm me as i just did this a few months ago.

RE: Removing Mach 460 amps?
I'll put it this way, taking out your factory amp is easy if you have an aftermarket deck. If you do the new problem will be that the MACH system work on a 2ohm load and aftermarket decks work on 4ohm. So basically, you'll need aftermarket speakers and to run new wires. I do it all the time and in a mustang takes me about an hour.
the stock head unit is mediocre at best.... a 79$ JVC is even better.

RE: Removing Mach 460 amps?
i was under the impression that the mach 1000 amps in the back were soley used to power the 2 subs. 2 amps per woofer (they are dual voice coil; 1 for each coil), and the amps in the side panels and under the dash were to power the other speakers.

RE: Removing Mach 460 amps?
Ok, first off I don't have the Mach 1000. I have the Mach 460. There are 2 amps in the trunk. There's no subs in my car. I don't want to replace them. I want to throw them out to save weight.
