I got an emissions test date in the mail and my regristration on my car is expiring. In order to renew my regristration in Connecticut, the emissions needs to be done first. I have a 1997 GT with BBK o/r X and 40 series Flows. I put a wanted add in craigslist for a 96-98 factory H pipe. I received a reply from someone that has a factory H pipe off of a 2002 GT, they said that it will fit and work properly on any 96-04 4.6 L 2 valve GT. Is he right, or do I need a 96-98 H pipe? I thought that the 96-98 GT H pipe from the factory had 6 cats on it, while 99-04 only had 4 catalytic converters. Any help would be appreciated since I need to pass emissions in 2 weeks. Thanks.

 

No,as far asI am concerned, it most definantly will NOT fit

 

i dont see why it wouldnt work other than the 96-98 gt's had an extra hanger(i think) and the extra cats.

 

It'll fit. I've swapped pipes before. Andy by the way, '96-'98 Mustangs onlyhave 4 cats.

94-98 had 6 cats 99+ has 4.....but it should fit my firned is running a 99-04 x pipe on his 98

So what are the other two things that are on the pipe? Resonators or somethin?

 

Yeah, the front two are resonators, the back four are the cats.

 

Interesting, I wonder what made them drop those in the 99+? Better yet, what were they even good for?
