Its Fixed! I ended up replacing the rack and tie rods, but it was definitely the rack causing the problem. Now it needs analignment andI finally have all the problems fixed, time for modding

Well, the play has returned. I'm really getting annoyed with this. If anyone has any new ideas, please help me out.

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I'd give this one a bump. My rack has some play in it also. While under the car, and someone else is turning the wheel you can see the steering shaft turning right up to where it joins with the rack. The wheels are not moving if you don't leave this area of play, if you go outside it you can barely see them wiggle. Figured it was the rack being worn on a 77,000 mile car and I don't believe they can be adjusted so I figured I'd live with it. It's been bothering me a little, more and more over the last few weeks and I'd like to fix it.

I don't want to replace the rack since LAstang's problem ended up coming back.

On the plus side, the car tracks perfectly straight on a nice road which makes it a little less unbearable.

What ever happened with your steering issue? Did you get it sorted out?
