Air Intakes worth it?

Air Intakes worth it?
I'm new to the forums.
I just bought a 2002 GT and it has the original air filter, etc.
I would like to replace the filter system to get a little more oomph out of the engine and a little more underhood rumble.
Looking on ebay, there are many low cost cold air intakes. Are they worth it, or should I spend the money on a K&N intake?
I trust there are many people who have made this replacement. I'm looking for your comments on how satisfied you are with the ones you put on.
Thank you.

RE: Air Intakes worth it?
I have the C&L setup, (80MM mass air, Plenum and Trueflow inlet pipe) combined with a 75MM Throttle body. Very pleased with the results, but its not your typical 150 dollar CAI setup.

Check out RPM outlet ( http://rpmoutlet.com/newv8m.htm ) They have some really good prices on CAI/tb/plenum combos and it will save ytou some money if you buy one of the combos. It is a little more expansive up front, but you will be really happy with the performance that you see from the combo. After you get your intake side, you need to look at getting a good exhauest setup.

i just got a complete exhaust system(headers, x pipe, exhaust kit) and it sounds beautiful. i am going to get one of the combo intake systems the guys are talking about to make a real mean rumble. my personal opinion you will hear more of a difference with exhaust first if thats what you want.

Check out the "Accufab TB and plenum install" tread in this forum. Much good info there. Catback at the very least will give you a good boost. If you add gears to that, let's say 3.73's, the combo will feel like a different car. Throttle body and plenum are good for a next step. CAI is probably the least for overall improvement. Spend your money elsewhere and just add a K&N and take out your air/wind silencer. Takes about 15 minutes for only the cost of the filter and you will have almost exactly what a CAI offers. CAI's can do you the most good if your car has a blower or is modified in some other way to produce a very high HP output. Gears and blower are the two absolute biggest, noticeable changes you can make. Gears, parts and labor, maybe $350 to $500. Blower, parts and labor, $3,000 to $4,000. Guess what most people do first? Gears and a new exhaust are the way to go for big acceleration gains you will be able to feel.

From everyone's comments, it sounds like I will be happiest with making an exhaust exchange first. SLP LM2's sound like a good and reasonably priced option. Then I can come back and open up the throat a little more.
Thanks for the comments.
