Default It goes clunk...

Any time I change direction (go into first or reverse) I can hear a "clunk" noise from the rear of the car. My first assumption was loose driveshaft bolts (replaced the clutch about 500 miles ago, it could happen). They are good so my next thought was U joints. Not sure what? The rear end will sit in the air until I figure it out.

is this just when you shift the trans into gear with the brake on, or when you start to accelerate? there is a ford special service message for this concern, its basically the combined driveline play being taken up in either directionwhen shifting into 1st and reverse with the clutch depressedand its normal

I have the driveshaft out and there is no play other than the directions it is supposed to go on the joints themselves. Should I still replace them or do I have another problem?

I finally got a day off from work so I am going to replace the U joints tonight. Can I use C clamps instead of a table vice? Im going to have to buy the tools I need and don't really feel like getting a vice right now.

Do you have a picture of your rear end? Mine does the same thing.
