Pop/ Tick noise
Just bought an 03 gt. it has a short shift and 3.73s in the rear When I shift I can hear a slight tick or pop noise sounds like its coming from the trans or back like down the driveshaft to the rear. Any ideas?

I am not going to say that it is 100% guaranteed to be the synchromesh gears.. but it could be.. i'd say about a 40% possibility based on what you are saying. You can't exactly "fix" these gears unless you go to a transmission shop.. but the time and labor involved will eventually lead you to just buying a new transmission.. or just living with the problem until one of the gears blows out.
What happens with the syncho's is.. their purpose is to aid in the meshing of two gears. Basically you have these "dog teeth" in the transmission that make contact with the gear you need... The two parts are spinning at different speeds and will not mesh together smoothly in their present state. Without the synchronizers.. your gears will grind. There's a thing called a "cone clutch" which engages to bring the selector and the gear to the ssame speed. The synchronizer has to change the entire speed of the input shaft and clutch disc so it has very high imprtance.. You might have extra wear on your rings and sleeves.. that kinda stuff happens when you shift and dont fully depress the clutch..
I'm not guarnteeing that this is your problem.. but it kinda sounds like it... I woulnd't worry about it too much though.. I am just explaining what happens when your synchros go bad [&:]
