RE: Disconnecting GT Muffler

I had exhaust cutouts on my 2000 GT.. meaning that the mufflers were still on and the entire exhaust was intact.. but there was a flanged pipe where the 2nd set of Catalytic converters were supposed to be so all the exhaust was going through 1 set of cats, then blowing out the side. The car was too torquey.. and I put magnaflow cats in place of the exhaust dumps.

I don't know how similar the no-mufflers deal would be.. but the way I see it.. if you got your pipes connected and there is a steady flow out the back.. no mufflers really makes no difference. The only reason for mufflers is to muffled the sound obviousely. You have backpressure, and a lot of it. WhenI had the exhaust dumps, THAT was harmful andsounded ridiculous.. no backpressure there. That's my 2 cents.

you will lose low end torque if you remove the catback not to mention interior resonance would be super annoying.

this thread kind of gives me an idea of what ox was talking about.:eek::eek:

Yes, you will lose high end horsepower. You will gain about 50% more low end Torque as compared to the high end horsepower lost's figure, however. Don't listen to what anyone else tells you, that's what happens. I know exhaust.. I had a lot of problems with mine. Sorry for beating around the bush, I was at work.. got distracted.
