Default Engine squeak...please help!

Hi guys, haven't been here in a while.

The engine belt area is making a squeaking sound... and I've tried everything to fix it. The belt and pulleys probably have maybe 5,000 miles on them first off. The belt is in great condition. The noise seemed to be coming from the idler pulley, so I took it off and soaked it in chain saw oil for about an hour trying to relubricate it, but that didn't work. So then I figured it may be the idle tensioner spring, so I took that off and lubricated that with some rem oil and that didn't work, but the noise seems to be coming from one of those two things. Like I said the idler pulley is new, so do I need a new idle tensioner?

Taking the stang on a 300 mile trip tomorrow and don't feel like listening to a squeaky noise for that long...

Thanks for any help.

I would take the belt off completely and run the motor to see if it still makes the sound, if so neither of those things is your problem. Just do it when your motor is cool cause you won't have the water pump working.
If it still does it my 2002 was the same way and it was my syncronizer which is at the front of the engine, ended up being a $185 for the part.

Ok guys I drove it down there squeaking and now it's parked till I get it fixed. I just took the belt off and no squeaking whatsoever. But I have a question, what are you calling a syncronizer? Have a pic?

So I've pretty sure it has to be a pulley... But I soaked all of them in chain saw oil so that should have eliminated all squeaking?

Please help!

I would be willing to bet that it's the idler pulley. Mine was squeking real loud while being parked. As soon as I took the pulley off, the bearings fell out. The oil will not fix a pulley with bad bearings.

Ok, I just replaced the idle tensioner pulley and the sound got worse... It fixed the squeaking, but now it makes a worse sound, kind of like a grinding sound. I checked the belt and it's fine, checked the tensioner and everything is fine. I have no clue what is going on...

When does it make the squeak?

Mine seems to squeak when I'm on the gas and at high RPM'S.

Thx

Not really a squeak anymore, more like a grinding noise. Makes it all the time, idle/high rpms.
