So I was driving today and I was acelerating normally from a green light and I donno what happened, I guess I got too ahead of myself. I either moved the shifter from 1st to2nd without the clutch in yet or I moved the shifter from 2nd to N without the clutch and I heard a really loud grinding sound like GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and the shifter was vibrating like crazy and it was kinda loud.

I then said OH **** and put the clutch down and moved it to gear properly. The car still works fine and the gears engage just like normal but am I going to be saying good bye to my tranny soon?

You ground your gears. Be careful not to do it, but I probably do it once every other day because my tranny is pretty well into it's days.

yeah. not a big deal, happens to the best of us. just pay more attention when switching gears. i usually drive like a granny around town now, so dont have that problem much anymore. lol

Alright cool thats comforting to know. Yeah it's my first car and I didn't have too much experience driving a stick shift until I bought it like 2 and a half months ago. So far everything wasgreat until that happened today...I guess i'll pay more attention from now on.

I exert minimal force when shifting unless racing. Shift allowing the transmission to decide if the gear goes in or not. Don't make it go in.

The best is when you're just being lazy, driving like a grandma, and don't push the clutch all the way in. grrr...... lol...

That'll make you feel like a tard for sure.

Transmissions, even our amazing ones, are designed to last through the violence of missed gears and crappy drivers.

I'd only worry if you do it 2-3 times a day at WOT.

This might be stupid but I can pull any gear out into neutral without using the clutch

When you learn the RPM's of each gear you could shift into the gears without the clutch also. The clutch is there for a reason though. Use it.
