Cobra Tansmission in GT?????? HELP
I will soon need a new transmission since mine is on its way out. I was looking at the Tremec T-56 Manual which I think is the transmission found in our the 99-04 cobras. I want to know if this transmission will blot up directly with my car and if my Steeda Triax shifter and aftermarket clutch(I don't remember what it is right now so I'll have to look it up) will still work assuming this is a direct bolt up part.
1.Will the Tremec T-56 Manual bolt up to my 2003 GT?
2.If the answer to one is yes, will I need to get a new shifter and clutch?
3. Is there any additional information I would need to know for this switch?
This also means my procharger now has to be put on hold. . . .:-(

t-56s are pretty pricey.. and while they hold up well, they are known to have some problems occasionally, because there not true aftermarket trannys, but im guessing u won't have any problems with it... Look into Tremec TKO 500 and 600 if you're not so set on the 6 speed thing, i'll probably go TKO 500 when the time comes. I don't think the final gear on the 500? and t-56 are much different but i could be wrong.. i'd suggest doing a little research of your own. but not a bad way to go... good luck with ur project.
i don't have time for the other questions lol im on my way out the door.

The T56 will bolt right up. You will need a new shifter, clutch, driveshaft and wiring harness.
Same answer for the TKO except the stock driveshaft will work but you will need to buy the 4.6 bellhousing ($400)

Unless you are roadracing, or just like to shift gears, drive a 6-speed before you invest in one.
I have a friend that has a 2004 Corvette with a 6-speed (also a T56 I believe) and after the novelty wears off I find it to be kind of annoying.

yeah from what i have seen a t-56 has darn near the same ratio gears 1-5 as the t-45 and a little nicer of an over drive for 6th. unless you are getting 4.53's or some half track gearing you wont really need the last overdrive gear. look into the tko500's or 600's they are pretty much bulletproof and are a very nice upgrade. the clutch should bolt up but i dont know about the shifter. its a good reason to go with a mgw.

You guys have talked me in to the Tremec TKO 500. Just to make sure we are on the same page, my clutch, and drive shaft will bolt right up and I'll need a new shifter? What about this wiring harness that oxfordgt was talking about?

...no clue, but I just wanted to correct you about what years the Cobra had the T56. They had then from 03-04 (and the newer GT500s as well), but the 99 and 01 Cobras had either the T45 or the TR3650, both five speeds.
