Can you program your own key?
I just bought a genuine Ford key off ebay and got it cut today for like 2 bucks. It unlocks all the doors and everything, and the glove box, and turns on the ignition too.. but not all the way as to start it up, the starter just goes crazy and all the alarms go off. But yea, the guy at the key cutting place put the key in a device and determined that there is a Texas Instruments chip in the key, and Ford needs to match the key to the engine.
So what i'm wondering is basically.. how much does Ford charge to do this.. like 100 bucks? And am I able to do this myself at all? Thanks guys, seriousely.

Yes you can, but you need both of your original keys to to it. I don't remember the exact procedure but I use to work at Ace hardware so I got chipped keys for free. So now I have like 30 of them programmed for my car.
I'll Look it up and tell you
The following is the procedure for programing a THIRD key.
1) Insert an existing key and turn the ignition to ON (Run) and then back to OFF.
2) Within 5 seconds insert the 2ND existing key and turn the ignition to ON and then back to OFF.
3) Within 10 seconds insert the NEW 3rd key and turn the ignition to the ON position. Leave it ON for 1 second and then back to OFF.
4) The security light will light up for 3 seconds to indicate that the NEW key has been successfully programmed. That's it.
Now if you lose a key, you still have two keys so you can again program a 3rd new key. Without getting ripped off by the dealer.
That'll be $72.50

Yeah I just talked to a Ford guy.. he said its 70 bucks for them to program it, and you have to show your license and registration to the vehicle.
The reason for this is because say you have two keys.. and someone steals one of them and tries to make a copy. The guy who stole your 1 key can't make a copy without both, or else he has to show proper registration and his license to get a duplicate made. A "security feature" to make Automotive companies richer.
So everyone make sure you have 3 keys!!!
