on my car rite now i have a k&n air filter cone conected to the stock rubber pipe up to the tb. now is that a CAI or not? i see the nice polished metal ones you can buy on the internet 4 like 200 bucks but isnt that just a filter with a nice looking piece of metal? or does the metal help some how to give you more hp?

A true CAI would draw all the intake air from a cooler source than under the hood. The holes in the fender up close to the top keep this from happening. If the air filter is exposed under the hood it draws in air HEATED by the radiator and exhaust.Unless you are just doing this for looks, don't waste your money.

I work with air flow at my job, and the smooth pipe they give you will help airflow and in theory should give you more HP
……but the heat the pipe holds will hurt you as it heats up incoming air. Cooler air makes more HP.
You might have the best of both worlds, a bit beter air flow without added heat [sm=smiley14.gif]
